Apologetics

The Greek word apologia means "to give a reasoned defense for what you believe to be true." It is used 19 times in the new Testament. 1 Peter 3:15 (Amplified) is one such instance.

"But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense (apologia) to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully"

We, as followers of Christ, are mandated to defend our faith in every area. This section is dedicated to answering the questions of many as to the authenticity of our faith as Christians. Though it will not give detailed answers, it will attempt to convey some core truths about Christianity.

How does one find the true God?

By definition God is an infinite, eternal, sovereign, omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (all- present), and omnipotent (all-powerful) being, otherwise He is not God. As such there can only by one God for having two such beings is a contradiction of this very definition of God.

Amongst all the religious (Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and many more) and non-religious (scientific, agnostic, atheistic and many more) beliefs and theories, how does one find this one true God?

The Bible teaches that with the mind, man cannot recognize or perceive the true God. Paul says… “the world with all its earthly wisdom failed to perceive and recognize and know God by means of its own philosophy...” (1 Corinthians 1:21 Amp). God is infinite and man is finite. God is unlimited and man is limited. God was never created and has no beginning and no end. Man was created and is finite with both a beginning and with an end. As such with the mind (man’s intelligence, wisdom, reason) man cannot fathom an infinite God who has no beginning or end. Furthermore, the Bible teaches that the mind of man is opposed to God, ..”Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” (Romans 8:7 KJV), so it can indeed never come to God and never know God.

But, the Bible tells us that God has placed eternity in the hearts of men, “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV). Someone called it “an empty hole” in the heart; a hole that only the one true God Himself can fill. Augustine prayed "You have created us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you." God has placed eternity in the hearts of men so that they may seek Him. He promises that when we seek Him, regardless of who we are, where we are in life, or what we believe in…we will find Him. He says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13 KJV).

God wants us to seek Him, not because He is playing hard to get, but because He knows our human nature. He knows that we will only seek after a thing with all our hearts when we truly value and desire that thing. He will not be found of us if we do not desire Him.

If you sincerely seek God….you will find Him. This is His promise to those who will seek Him with all their hearts. When you find Him He shall reveal all truth to you: who He is, who He has created you to be and what your purpose is on earth.

Sincerely ask: God who created heaven and earth if you exist, I want to know you. I am open. Reveal yourself to me.
